Ridgecrest, Calif. - While Kern County suffered under an unemployment rate of 17 percent in January - substantially higher than even state-wide unemployment at 13 percent - Ridgecrest remained in the single digits at 9.9 percent, near the national jobless rate of 10.6 percent.

Ridgecrest, Calif. - The council will meet at 4:30 p.m. this evening - not at 6:30 as was originally stated in a preview article that appeared in Friday’s edition and online. The confusion was due to a typo on the city’s agenda document itself.
 Annual Biker Blessing Scheduled (The Ridgecrest Daily Independent)
Ridgecrest, Calif. - The 5th annual Ridgecrest Biker Blessing will be held Saturday, April 10 at Calvary Chapel, 210 E. Springer St., at 10 a.m. Riders will meet for a short devotional and prayer of blessing, parade through town on the traditional ride (last year there were almost 300 bikes), and return to the church for a free barbecue lunch.

Ridgecrest, Calif. - The city council will hold a special meeting this evening to accommodate timely revisions to ballot language for an initiative that would change the way the local mayor is elected.
