The number of homes purchased in 2008 in Grand Junction that have negative equity — a loan balance that is greater than the value of the property — has reached 19.2 percent in 2008. That’s a jump from 9.7 percent of those purchased in 2007 and is well above the percentages recorded earlier this decade, according to real estate charting source Zillow.com.
